Population Census Items — 1790-1990

This research tool or form has the items or information, present on all the “Federal Census's” from 1790 - 1920 (the latest available). This is a real time saver when researching census records.

It's interesting to read through the years and observe the changes in statistical information needed as the United States grew. There were some years when information was no longer needed and the items included on a previous census would be eliminated. The best example of that was when slavery was no longer legal.

The census for 1930 is due to be released in the year 2000, however it won't be available for public access until one or two years later. This form includes only those supplemental schedules still in existence and it excludes questions asked on a sample basis only.
